Fixing Our Flawed Licensing System
I’m Calling for Urgent Action After the Tragic Death of Robert Hall
In May 2018, Robert Hall was struck and killed by a partially blind driver while doing what he loved, riding his bike. Seven and a half years later, his family has only just received some long-awaited answers. That delay is unacceptable. It’s a heartbreaking example of how our system fails the very people it’s meant to protect.
No family should have to wait this long for justice. And no community should have to wait this long for action.
The System Has Failed
A driver with significant vision impairment was allowed to remain on the road.
The Hall family endured years of silence, confusion, and grief without closure.
The coroner’s findings have exposed serious cracks in our licensing system, cracks that must be fixed immediately.
This isn’t just about one case. It’s about every South Australian who walks, cycles, or drives on our roads. We need a system that prioritises safety, accountability, and transparency.
What I’m Calling For
- Swift Implementation of the Coroner’s Recommendations
The State Government must act without delay. We cannot afford to let another tragedy occur while we wait for bureaucratic processes to play out. - Stronger Medical Oversight in Licensing
Drivers with medical conditions that impair their ability to operate a vehicle safely must be assessed rigorously and regularly. Public safety must come first. - Transparent Review Mechanisms
Families deserve answers. I’m calling for clearer pathways for coronial findings to trigger policy reform and public reporting. - Support for Victims’ Families
The Hall family’s experience shows how isolating and painful the justice process can be. We need better support systems for families navigating coronial investigations and road trauma.
This Is About Justice and Prevention
Robert’s death was preventable. The cracks in our licensing system are not theoretical, they cost lives. I’ll keep fighting to ensure that no other family has to endure what the Halls have.
If you believe in safer roads and a fairer system, I invite you to join me. Share your story, support the campaign, and help us demand urgent reform.
Because justice delayed is justice denied.
