Changes to push for improved motorbike rider training for learners
𝗪𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗶𝘁!!!
In March 2020, I amended a government bill to push for improved motorbike rider training for learners, and more than four years later, these crucial reforms have finally got over the line!
The revamped Rider Safe program will now offer extensive training - doubling the rider-to-instructor ratio, introducing a restructured hazard perception course, two full days of practical training, and a final on-road assessment. These changes will save young lives, plain and simple.
This morning I had the honour of standing alongside Anne-marie Taplin in front of parliament as this life-saving announcement was made. Anne-marie's tireless advocacy, following the tragic loss of her son Harry, has been nothing short of inspirational. Her advocacy and persistence has been crucial in driving these reforms.
Days like this are why I'm in politics - seeing real change that will protect our community and save lives.
A big thank you to Tom Koutsantonis MP, Dan Cregan - Member for Kavel, DIT, Motor Trade Association of SA/NT. and all the stakeholders who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make our roads safer for new riders.
